If you work with several Rex tabs open at once, you can now tell them apart at a glance. Each record's browser tab leads with the contact's name or the property's address, so when the phone rings you can go straight to the right tab instead of clicking through each one.
This article explains what Rex browser tabs now show, which records are covered, and a few things worth knowing.
What Do Rex Browser Tabs Show Now?
When you open a record in Rex, the browser tab title now starts with the name of that record, followed by the usual Rex details.
For example, a listing tab that used to read Rex CRM - Listings - Record now reads:
456 / 29b Helen Street, Neales Flat SA 5374 - Rex CRM - Listings - Record
There's nothing to switch on or set up. Open a record and the browser tab updates automatically. The record name also shows in your browser's tab list, window list and browser history, so it's easier to find a record you were working on earlier.
Which Rex Records Show a Name in the Browser Tab?
| Record | What the browser tab shows first |
|---|---|
| Contact | The contact's name (or the company name for a company contact) |
| Listing | The property address |
| Property | The property address |
| Project | The project name |
| Project stage | The project name and stage name together |
| Building | The building name |
| Campaign | The campaign name |
| Market lead | The market lead's label |
Pages that aren't a single record, such as the Dashboard, Reporting, Settings and list views, keep their usual browser tab title.
❗ Please Note: Appraisals, tenancies and other record types not listed above keep their usual browser tab title for now.
How Does Rex Choose the Name Shown in the Browser Tab?
- Contacts show the contact's short name, the same name Rex search uses, rather than the full heading on the contact record. For example, a contact headed "Mr & Mrs Brad Pitt & ..." may show in the browser tab as "Brad Pitt & Pitt". For more on searching, see Global Search in Rex.
- Listings and properties show the full property address.
- Project stages show the project and the stage together, so a browser tab never just reads "Stage 1".
- If you rename a record and save it, the browser tab updates to the new name.
- Records you preview while stepping through a list also show their name in the browser tab.
Why Does the Browser Tab Show a Generic Title for a Moment?
When you open a record, or move from one record to the next, the browser tab briefly shows the usual generic title (for example Rex CRM - Contacts - Record) until the record has loaded. This is expected. It means the browser tab never shows the previous record's name by mistake.
Why Is a Long Name or Address Cut Off in the Browser Tab?
Your browser shortens tab titles to fit the space available. Rex puts the record name first so the most useful part stays visible, but a long address can be cut off part way through on a narrow browser tab. Rex doesn't shorten names itself, so on a wider tab you'll see more of the name.
Will Contact Names and Addresses Show When I Share My Screen?
Yes, if your browser tab bar is visible. Contact names and property addresses now appear anywhere your browser shows tab titles, including:
- Your tab bar when you share your screen
- Your browser history and tab search
- Browser history synced to your other devices
The browser tab only ever shows the record you already have open, so it doesn't reveal anything you can't already see in Rex.
❗ Please Note: If your agency has strict screen-sharing practices, consider sharing a single window or application rather than your whole screen, so your browser tab bar isn't visible.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to turn anything on to see record names in my browser tabs?
No. Record names in browser tabs are on for every Rex account, and record tabs show their name automatically.
My browser tabs haven't changed. What should I do?
Reload Rex in your browser. If your browser tabs still show the generic title on a contact, listing or property, contact Rex Support.
Can I turn off record names in my browser tabs?
There's no setting to turn this off for an account or user. If it causes a problem for your agency, contact Rex Support.
Do appraisals show a name in the browser tab?
Not at this stage. Appraisals keep their usual browser tab title.
Does this work in Rex Pocket?
No. Rex Pocket doesn't use browser tabs, so this change applies to Rex in your web browser only.
