Once you've created your Newsletter, the next step is setting up the campaign: who it goes to, what the subject line is, and who it appears to come from. Getting this right makes sure your Newsletter reaches the right contacts and that replies come back to the right person.
This article covers each field on the campaign setup step, and explains why some contacts on your mailing list won't receive the Newsletter. If you haven't created your Newsletter yet, see - Creating and Duplicating Newsletters.
For step-by-step instructions, watch the help video below.
How Do I Change the Campaign Name?
The Campaign Name is filled in automatically from the name you gave your Newsletter when you created it. To change it, click the red edit icon beside the name.
Changing the Campaign Name also changes the name of the Newsletter at the top of the Newsletters module.
How Do I Choose Which Mailing Lists Receive My Newsletter?
- Click in the Mailing List text box to see your available mailing lists
- Select the mailing list you want to send to
- Repeat to add more mailing lists if needed
If a contact is on more than one of the mailing lists you've selected, Rex will only send the Newsletter to them once.
For more on mailing lists, see - Mailing Lists: Introduction.
Why Won't Some Contacts on My Mailing List Receive the Newsletter?
The number of contacts who will receive your Newsletter may be lower than the number of contacts on your mailing list. Rex automatically leaves out contacts who:
- Don't have an email address saved on their contact record
- Have an invalid email address
- Have unsubscribed from the mailing list
- Are marked as Do Not Contact
- Have Email blocked in their Communication Preferences
The number of excluded contacts is shown beneath the summary of recipients.
Please Note: Rex doesn't show an error when a contact is left out because their email is blocked. They're simply removed from the recipient list, so check the exclusions beneath the recipient summary if you're expecting a contact to receive the Newsletter. For more on blocking channels, see - Contacts: Communication Preferences and Do Not Contact.
How Do I Send to Only Some of the Contacts on a Mailing List?
Use the Mailing List Segment to filter the contacts on your mailing list by adding criteria. For each criterion, select:
- The field you want to search on
- The type of search you want to perform
- The value (or values) you're looking for
The more specific your criteria, the fewer contacts will match.
What Should I Enter for the Subject Line, From Name and Reply To Email?
- Subject Line - the subject your recipients will see when the Newsletter arrives in their inbox
- From Name - the name your recipients will see the Newsletter is from. This could be a specific agent or your agency name.
- Reply to Email - where replies to the Newsletter will be sent. This could be a specific agent's email or an agency-wide email.
Once you've entered these details, click Save Changes in the black overlay, then click Next Step.
❓ FAQs
A contact is on my mailing list but didn't receive the Newsletter. Why?
Check their contact record. They may be missing an email address, have an invalid email, be unsubscribed from the mailing list, be marked as Do Not Contact, or have Email blocked in their Communication Preferences.
Will a contact who is on two of my mailing lists get the Newsletter twice?
No. Rex only sends the Newsletter to each contact once, even if they're on more than one of the mailing lists you've selected.
Does changing the Campaign Name change anything my recipients see?
No. The Campaign Name is for your reference in Rex. Your recipients see the Subject Line and From Name.
In the next article, we cover how to customise your Newsletter template.
